Short description
A crispy plant-based schnitzel made with seitan — a great alternative for anyone looking for a familiar texture and a filling meat-free main dish.

Ingredients

  • 400 g ready-made seitan
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 100 ml unsweetened plant-based milk
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Black pepper
  • Oil for baking or frying

Method

  1. Cut the seitan into thin slices.
  2. Place the flour in one bowl.
  3. In a second bowl, mix the plant-based milk, mustard, and soy sauce.
  4. In a third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the spices.
  5. Coat each piece of seitan first in flour, then in the liquid mixture, and finally in the breadcrumbs.
  6. Bake in a lightly greased tray at 200°C for about 20 minutes, turning halfway through.
  7. You can also fry the schnitzels for a more classic result.

Tip
Serve with potato salad, a fresh salad, or a garlic plant-based sauce.
