This Earth Day, while you ponder what you are doing to help the Earth, why not add reducing meat consumption to that list? Next to recycling, it’s probably one of the easiest things you can do for the environment. Eating meat not only has consequences for the animals that are farmed in the United States, but it also has a wide-ranging impact on the planet as a whole.
This topic even made international news a few years back. In 2008, a climate expert with the United Nations linked eating less meat with helping to curb global warming. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization estimated that meat production accounts for nearly a fifth of global greenhouse gas emissions at that time.*
Reducing your meat consumption is easy thanks to meat-free products like beans, quinoa and my personal favorite – Lightlife’s plant-based protein products. You can pretty much make anything meat-free. Click like on Lightlife’s Facebook page for lots of delicious recipes to get you started.
Hope you find your own way to make the earth greener this Earth Day!
