I stepped on the scale for the first time today in, oh I don’t know, five weeks. I rarely weigh myself, but the last month I really have been eating like crazy and I started to feel it in my clothes. Strange thing is several people have told me I looked skinny in the last few weeks, but I had a good feeling I had put on a few pounds. Sure enough the scale doesn’t like. I was five pounds heavier than when I last weighed myself. Sigh! So what happened? It wasn’t the holidays where I could have an excuse for putting on the pounds. It was just one of those months where being a foodie caught up to me. It all started with my trip to Vegas. When I ate all this and a whole lot more: After that trip I vowed to eat healthy to make up for the non-stop feasting I had just done, but then I guess things just got away from me. We had dinners out several times a week, people over, etc. I should have known better than to eat at “5 Napkin Burger” twice in a few weeks where I get a veggie burger with fries and a Smores milkshake. I mean who can pass up a smores milkshake right? Of course if I eat a great veggie burger and fries I should skip dessert. Well I’ve got a little devil over my shoulder (my husband) who has to order dessert and I always give in. Dessert is another weakness. What can I say? If a restaurant has fondue on the menu. I have to order it. So after eating guacamole, tons of chip, enchiladas, rice and beans at “Dos Caminos” I also ordered the fondue to top it off! That fondue was enjoyable. What annoys me is when I eat something I’m not even that crazy about. I went to what used to be one of my favorite restaurants the other day “Cafe Fiorello”. They used to have a great agnolotti. They got rid of that though and now the only vegetarian options on the menu are borrrrrrrrring. I ordered the eggplant parm pizza and the eggplant was cold and the pizza just didn’t have a lot of flavor, but as you can see I still ate some of it. Now, of course, in between those meals there were a lot of healthy ones in there. Just not enough healthy stuff to make up for the bad stuff. Plus I have been awful about exercising. So I guess one thing just led to another and boom next thing I know I’ve put on five pounds. To some this may not seem like a lot of weight, but trust me I put on the freshman 15 in college and I know how five pounds can lead to 10 pounds and the next thing you know I’m buying a new wardbrobe. Instead of having it come to that I have already started exercising. Luckily with the weather this week the park has been calling my name. Now I just have to make sure to keep my eating in check. It will be hard that’s for sure. Plus I don’t know the word diet. I like food too much so I just can’t deprive myself too much. What I need to do is just try to eat healthy at home and not binge when I go out. The other problem is I like to entertain. I’m having people over tonight to watch Idol so tonight will be the first test. I like to serve good food when people come over to my home. I’m a Chef, it’s what I do. So what will I do tonight? Tune in tomorrow and I’ll let you know!
